The first part that was made today was the shelf that the rail and shutter will sit on. The shelf extends back into the dome and has the same inside curvature as the dome ring.
In preparation of putting the weather skirt on, we sealed the wall joints with silicon and then covered it with small strips of pine, painted white.
When then started to attach the skirt. The skirt was made from 12' lengths of vinyl siding.
An image of the observatory with the completed skirt. To finish off the skirt, we added a strip of painted pine around the top of the skirt.
The next two things that were done were to put on the raise plywood along the slit, where the shutter will mate with the dome. We also began to silicon the joints of the dome and cover those with a vinyl strips to give the dome a finished look.
