Star Night @ Killarney Provincial Park

August 24, 2005 - 2100h

On Wednesday August 24, I gave a presentation in the amphitheater at Killarney Provincial Park in Ontario. There were 175 people in the crowd. I first delivered a slide show presentation which introduced the audience to the night sky, as well as some of the history, stories and science of astronomy. After the presentation, we moved down to the beach and setup my scope and two spotting scopes supplied by the Park. I aimed my telescope on M31 and continued to point out objects, constellations and of course Polaris. As a bonus, we were treated to a slight Auroral display.

This is an image of the front of Killarney's amphitheater. On the stage, I set up my telescope to give an "astronomical" atmosphere as people were arriving. The park has a spectatular setup with a data projector projecting the images from the back of the screen.

An image of myself and Valarie, one of the Park's Naturalists who helped me with the evening. Unfortunately, I did not get pictures of Erik or Trevor. Erik however can be seen at Philosophers Walk helping with my wife's hike.

I would like to thank Mike Lavin at Killarney Provincial Park for organizing the event and Robert Gendler for permission for using some of his spectatular images in my presentation.
